All songs from this week’s “Song of the Day” come from women of color performing at COLORSXSTUDIOS. COLORSXSTUDIOS is a unique aesthetic music platform showcasing exceptional talent from around the globe. COLORS focuses on the most distinctive new artists and original sounds in an increasingly fragmented and saturated scene. All COLORS shows seek to provide clear, minimalistic stage that shines a spotlight on the artists, giving them the opportunity to present their music without distraction.

North London rapper Little Simz captivated the COLORS soundscape from her very first performance of “Backseat”, produced by Astronote. As we searched through the massive collection of songs from the COLORS stage, this one jumped out at us as a real gem. Little Simz is an incredibly intelligent, well-spoken rap artist who lays her emotions bare with every line she speaks, particularly in her hook “All my life been a black sheep / All my life been the black keys / True I never really was a bad breed / Daddy probably rather me an athlete”. We really connected with her lyrics and with her desire to be seen, to be more than what the world sees you as. To hear more from Little Simz, check out her album Stillness in Wonderland.
