All songs from this week’s “Song of the Day” come from women of color performing at COLORSXSTUDIOS. COLORSXSTUDIOS is a unique aesthetic music platform showcasing exceptional talent from around the globe. COLORS focuses on the most distinctive new artists and original sounds in an increasingly fragmented and saturated scene. All COLORS shows seek to provide clear, minimalistic stage that shines a spotlight on the artists, giving them the opportunity to present their music without distraction.
We wanted to bring a little levity to your mid-week play list (I know my Song of the Day entries tend to skew to the more intense, dark side – JB), and Madison McFerrin is just the person to brighten up your Wednesday! Daughter of Bobby McFerrin, Madison McFerrin’s voice is like a crisp, crystal-clear pool of water on a warm summer day. It’s just so easy to listen to, and brings a unique, refreshing quality to every note. “TRY”, produced by Taylor McFerrin is just a good song that takes a usually terrifying subject matter, growing and changing, and delivers it in an encouraging, uplifting way that reminds you things are only getting better as we’re getting older. There is a lot of art and media today that makes this subject matter fatalistic, and intense, but none of that exists with this song. It doesn’t make light of the idea, but it presents it to the listener in a calming, almost friendly manner. “But no sacrifice / Comes without mistakes / We could fly / Take a leap of faith / Look inside, oh / Don’t you hesitate”.
